Program Overview

The new program cycle, known as BESST, is a year-long, accelerated preparation program. BESST stands for Bilingual, Elementary, Secondary, Special Education Teachers, as this program is a mixture of all certification areas.

BESST program cycle begins in August with a one-day orientation and 35 hours of intensive pedagogy instruction.  In addition, teacher interns will be introduced to our online coursework system. The internship year that follows will consist of face-to-face and online sessions. Campus mentors and field support specialists provide extensive classroom/campus support for each intern.

Training sessions

  • Pre-Service Training begins in August.
  • Face-to-face sessions are scheduled August through June (approximately two Saturdays per month)
  • Ten online topic-based modules are scheduled August through May
  • Most sessions are held at Region XIII, 5701 Springdale Road , Austin , Texas

Pending successful completion of the internship year, along with program and state licensing requirements, participants earn a teaching certificate in their area of study.
