2010-11 District Referral Program Calendar
Application and Employment Period (March-July 2010)
Prospective intern must complete application during this period and have teaching position secured to be considered. Referral to program must be made by hiring principal or HR department. Please see the District Referral Program Application for more details and necessary forms.
Online Coursework Begins (if applicable) (June- Aug 2010)
Online courses begin for accepted applicants that have not yet met Highly Qualified status for their specific content area. These courses are content-based and are designed to assist participants in preparing for respective content certification exam.
Orientation: (July 26-August 6, 2010)
Pre-Service and Orientation
Applicants accepted into the District Referral Program will receive information outlining specific details of program as relates to specific certification area.
Training Begins (July 26- August 6, 2010)
Pre-service training sessions to help you prepare for the start of the school year will begin on July 26, 2010, and conclude on August 6, 2010. The training will be a full day from 9 am to 4:30 pm daily.
Field Experience
All District Referral interns are required to complete 30 hours of field based experience. Most interns will complete this requirement through 30 hours of classroom observations. Interns who can document that they have worked or are currently working as a teacher, substitute, or instructional assistant may receive credit for 15 hours of the required 30. The remaining 15 hours must be completed through classroom observation. Please contact our office for documentation forms necessary to complete this requirement.
Inservice:
Blended Training Continues (August 2010- May 2011)
All participants continue to meet face-to-face Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6-9pm) and Saturdays (9am-4pm). Online coursework continues along with the face-to-face meetings.
Internship Year (August 2010- May 2011)
Participant must be employed as a teacher of record by a TEA accredited School District. Begin receiving on-campus support from campus mentor and ECP field supporter.
Certification (June 2011)
Recommendation for Standard Teacher Certification
Upon successful completion of internship year and all program requirements, the participant is recommended for a standard teaching certificate through the State Board for Educator Certification. The teaching certificate is valid in any school district in the state of Texas.
