Curriculum

In alignment with the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC), Teacher Certification Resource Center advocates standards-driven programs for alternative routes to certification.   The foundation of our curriculum is research-based and innovative; combining robust online content with face-to-face facilitation.   This Blended Model has proven to be a best practice in teacher preparation.  Over the pas 5 years, 99% of the teacher certification candidates enrolled with our Educator Certification Program have passed the state administered competency test in pedagogy. Below is an overview of our Curriculum.

Content – Learn more

The online courses where developed from field tested best practices and demonstrates that learning is engaging, meaningful and on-going.  The courses include, but are not limited to:

  • Alignment to TExES exam standards
  • TEKS based content knowledge in the specific subject area
  • Short diagnostic test with item feedback for correct and incorrect responses

Pedagogy & Professionalism – Learn more

In order to develop a high-quality alternative route to teacher certification, we feel the curriculum must promote strengths in content, professionalism and pedagogy.

The Pedagogy component is designed to instruct teacher candidates on teaching and learning, specifically methods shown to be most effective with students.

The Professionalism curriculum includes providing teacher candidates with practical approaches to becoming professional, confident, and skilled classroom instructors, with emphasis on the social and communication skills needed to deal appropriately with students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and the public

Mentoring – Learn more

It is our belief that mentoring programs have a positive impact on teachers and their retention.  Supporting beginning teachers early in their careers leads to reduced turnover and a more experienced, better-qualified public school teaching staff. Our curriculum creates an interaction between mentors and novice teachers that is conducive to collaboration and support.
