When do I observe my intern and when does s/he observe me?
The observations can be done by the intern or the mentor depending on the intern's needs at the time. Paperwork is completed on the ECP Intern Log-in site.

Do I have to complete the mentor/intern training and why?
The State of Texas requires that all first year teachers have a "trained" mentor. ECP provides this mentor training in the form of a 6 hr. course called "Developing the Novice Teacher". Should a mentor have previous training within the last two years either by their school district or by Region XIII, or have mentored a first year teacher within the last two years, the mentor can be exempt by completing an ECP mentor exemption form. (See Mentor Resources) The remainder of the mentor/intern courses are completed together and revolve around the needs of the intern. Mentors receive a stipend as well as professional development and mentoring credit from the state.

How do I know if I'm exempt from "Developing the Novice Teacher"?
Any mentor who has completed mentor training either with their school district or through the ECP program in the last two (2) years is exempt from participating in “Developing the Novice Teacher.” These teachers must fill out an exemption form to be excused from this course for the remainder of the program. This form is included in the mentor packet, or it can be downloaded from the "Mentor Resources" on this site.

What should I do if I am unable to complete my mentoring responsibilities?
Contact the ECP Mentor Specialist, Debbie Leyva, immediately to make proper arrangements.

What must I complete to receive my stipend?
Mentors must complete two Discussion Summaries, two Observation Summaries, a W-9, and a stipend form for each semester in order to receive a check.
