Requirements for Application and Participation

  1. Must hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a major in either math or science or with the coursework requirement met ein math or science as listed on the checklists below.
  2. Must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 or a grade point average of 2.75 in the last 60 semester hours of completed coursework.
  3. Must provide evidence of required competency in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
  4. Must successfully participate in an online structured interview when applying.
  5. Must be approved by Austin Independent School District or Taylor Independent School District.
  6. Must commit 3 years of teaching with Austin Independent School District or Taylor Independent School District on a high needs high school campus.

Note: Participants pursuing composite certification areas (certificates for more than one content area) will need to pass the state certification exam to be considered highly-qualified for hiring purposes. Single-subject participants are considered highly-qualified with 24 hours of content coursework reflected on transcript and will not need to take the state exam before employment.
