Requirements for Application and Participation
- Must hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a major in either math or science or with the coursework requirement met ein math or science as listed on the checklists below.
- Must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 or a grade point average of 2.75 in the last 60 semester hours of completed coursework.
- Must provide evidence of required competency in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
- Must successfully participate in an online structured interview when applying.
- Must be approved by Austin Independent School District or Taylor Independent School District.
- Must commit 3 years of teaching with Austin Independent School District or Taylor Independent School District on a high needs high school campus.

Note: Participants pursuing composite certification areas (certificates for more than one content area) will need to pass the state certification exam to be considered highly-qualified for hiring purposes. Single-subject participants are considered highly-qualified with 24 hours of content coursework reflected on transcript and will not need to take the state exam before employment.
