The Transition to Teaching program from the United States Department of Education supports the recruitment and retention of highly qualified mid-career professionals and recent college graduates who have not majored in education to teach in high-need schools and districts.
The Transition to Teaching Program is collaborating with Austin Independent School
District and Taylor Independent School District to place 26 beginning middle and
high school mathematics and science teachers in high needs schools
throughout their districts.
As part of the Transition to Teaching grant, Region XIII assures these
teachers are able to incorporate project-based learning as well as integrate technology into classrooms. Through these trainings, the
teachers will be prepared to not only work in, but lead their campuses
in high school redesign initiatives to better prepare students to meet
the challenges of post secondary education.
During the internship year, the teacher-intern is hired by a district as the teacher of record with full pay and full benefits. Upon successful completion of the internship year along with related program and state licensing requirements, participants earn a Standard teaching certificate specific to their teaching assignment/area of study.
